Amazon is ending a popular perk for its Prime members.

The Prime benefit 'Try Before You Buy' allowed members to try on select clothing items, shoes and accessories at home before completing a purchase.

But the online retail giant has confirmed that the service is set to end in the coming weeks, with the last day to take advantage of the benefit on 31 January.

The service allows Prime members to order up to six apparel items on a trial basis, they then have seven days after receiving the products to return any unwanted items without being charged.

In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson cited the programme's limited reach and the growing use of improved sizing recommendations powered by artificial intelligence on the e-commerce platform.

They said: "Given the combination of Try Before You Buy only scaling to a limited number of items and customers increasingly using our new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalised size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to make sure they find the right fit, we're phasing out the Try Before You Buy option."

Amazon first began testing the service as Prime Wardrobe in 2017 before officially launching it in 2018.

The online retailer said that customer will still be able to get free returns across its apparel department and that phasing out 'Try Before You Buy' would give shoppers a simpler experience with a bigger selection and faster delivery.

There's still a few weeks to take advantage of the Prime benefit, which you can access if you're subscribed to Amazon as a member.
