We’re not sure how to feel about this German Christmas advert from 2015

'Tis the season for faking your own death...

Simon Lloyd

‘Tis the season for Christmas adverts. Absolutely *shit loads* of Christmas adverts.

With the arrival of John Lewis’ trampolining woodland animals seemingly the green light for every department store and supermarket in the land to reveal their latest festive ads, it’s now impossible to scroll through your Facebook or Twitter feed without seeing at least six of the bloody things.

And it’s not just this year’s Christmas adverts that are getting an airing, either…

With everyone banging on about the man on the moon twelve months ago, this offering from German supermarket chain Edeka – which has started doing the rounds again in recent days – might well have slipped under your radar.

Because there’s nothing more festive than discovering your ‘deceased’ father has actually faked his own death and made the whole family Christmas dinner, the advert tells the tale of a lonely old German man’s unorthodox method of getting his kids and grandkids around his table.

Of course, the serious point to this advert is that nobody wants to be alone at Christmas. While we should all try and be mindful of those that are, we wouldn’t recommend pretending you’re dead in order to solve the problem if you find yourself in this situation.

Don’t be surprise to see this one creep into your timelines in the coming days.
