Widowed grandma is selling £4.5 million mansion she won for £25

She wants to help her children and grandchildren with the ‘next chapter of their lives’

A widowed grandmother has decided to sell a £4.5 million mansion, just three months after winning it for £25.

In May this year, June Smith, 74 won the Omaze Million Pound House Draw – a six-bedroom, three storey house overlooking the picturesque Fowey Estuary in Cornwall – after having bought the winning ticket for just £25.

The mansion came mortgage free, with all stamp duty and legal fees covered, with June also pocketing £100,000 in cash to help her settle in.

This came after June’s husband of 43 years, Ron, passed away in 2022 following a heart attack.

Following her huge win, June was unsure what to do with the property. Local estate agents had predicted the property could achieve between £5,000 – £7,000 per month from long-term rentals and up to £14,000 a week from peak season holiday rentals.

Although June had initially planned to keep the house “for a while”, she has now decided to put it on the market.

She said she was selling the property so that she could help her three children and six grandchildren with “the next chapter in their lives.”

But June only decided to part ways with the dream house once her and her family had enjoyed a holiday together there.

“I wanted to enjoy at least one family holiday here before I put it on the market,” she told the MailOnline.

“We all came and stayed together and absolutely love the house and Cornwall – and my six grandchildren have certainly made the most of it.

“I knew winning this house would be life changing for all my family, and that’s why I’ve decided to sell now, as I want to use the money to help all my children and grandchildren with the next chapter in their lives.”

The waterfront property has been spotted on RightMove, with the site’s mortgage calculator estimating monthly repayments of £26,467 over 25 years.

Some of the property’s most striking features include a main sitting room with floor to ceiling glass offering stunning views of the estuary, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a stylish dining room, its own mooring and even a yoga studio at the end of the garden.

Speaking after her win, June said her late husband would have “absolutely loved the design of this house” and will be “looking down with an approving smile”.

She added: “I’m sure he played a part in this win – he won it for all of us. Ron always wanted us to be financially secure as a family – and this house gives us that security.”
