Move over James Corden.

Everyone loves a good Carpool Karaoke, but we seldom get to see one as special as this.

Ted McDermott was a Butlins Redcoat for years and got given the nickname “Songaminute Man” because of how many songs he knew.

In 2013 he was diagnosed with dementia, which has greatly affected Ted and his family. As his Facebook page reads: “In the last few years his memory has deteriorated a lot – often not recognising family and with many aggressive episodes.”

His son Simon decided to have a sing-song with him during a drive to Blackburn in May, which has taken the internet by storm.

Ted and his son’s rendition of ‘Quando, Quando, Quando’ has been viewed thousands of times since it was posted.

“Now, when we’ve got him singing again he’s back in the room. It’s these moments that we treasure,” his family said on Facebook.

The video was posted to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s Society as Ted’s son says their help has been invaluable.

Writing on the Justgiving page he said:

“I’m fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society because of the advice they’ve given us in the last few years. Without them we would have had very little idea or support about how to deal with even the basics of Dad’s condition.”

The heartwarming video has helped raise over £49,000 pounds to date, smashing their original target of £1,000.

The comments from those who donated money have been hugely supportive with many people sharing their own stories.

“My grandma had Alzheimer’s too and music brought her back to me love your strength it’s such a tough journey xx,” said one commenter.

“Lost my mother 7 years before she died xx a vivacious lady reduced to a shell. Good luck, a wonderful way to get your message across xx,” Barbara Thomson said.

Simon and his family have since posted several other videos of the 79-year-old belting out classic tunes.
