Participants were asked if they were comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation at work as well as being quizzed on the prominence of visible LGBT role models within the organisation.
MI5 director general Alan Parker praised announcement, saying: "Much of MI5's work keeping the country safe goes on by necessity out of view, so I'm delighted we can be publicly recognised as such an inclusive and welcoming place to work."
The top five is rounded out by Lloyds Banking Group, the National Assembly for Wales, social housing provider B3Living and law firm Pinsent Masons.
