The best place to the work in the UK has been named and Ricky Gervais will be very happy

Paul Moore

Did your own location make the top 20?

When most people think of Slough,  they picture the dreary, post-industrial commuter town that we all saw in Ricky Gervais’ superb show, The Office. Granted that particular branch of Wernham Hogg wasn’t the most exciting place in the world, but Slough has some real character.

Who wouldn’t love to see Gareth MC a quiz night – he’s got loads of questions about football and the Suez Canal – or enjoy a night out in the pub with the new crowd?

See, it’s the perfect place for building morale and getting work done which is why we’re not surprised to see that the town in Berkshire has topped a survey by Glassdoor of the 25 best towns and cities to live and work in.

The criterion for this survey was based on three traits. 1) How easy it is to get a job, 2) how affordable it is to live there, and 3) how satisfied employees are working there.

Aside from the world’s most famous paper company, Slough is also the home of  Mars and O2.

If you fancy taking a spin on the Free Love Freeway in search of work, you’ll be glad to know that median salary of a person in Slough is £35,000 per annum, the average house costs £390,000 and 26,000 vacancies are being advertised, as per Glassdoor’s research.

What can you attribute Slough’s success to? Well, as David Brent would say : “What is the single most important thing for a company? Is it the building? Is it the stock? Is it the turnover? It’s the people, investment in people.”

Wise words.
