Construction worker dangling from a crane

Warning: an extremely stressful watch

In a truly death-defying piece of footage, virtually helpless bystanders looked through their fingers as they watched a construction worker dangling from a crane hundreds of feet in the air.

The incident which occurred in Toronto‘s financial district was captured from multiple angles on Tuesday. While it is unclear how long the poor bloke was hanging for, you can see nearly a minute of screaming for help as he dangles more than 30 stories up.

A spokesperson for the construction company in charge of the project, PCL Constructors Canada Inc., said the worker’s hand became entangled in a tagline after he had attached a load of materials to the crane.

Those working on and around the site were said to be unable to warn the crane operator in time before lifting the employee off the ground; moreover, Toronto police, firefighters and paramedics all told CBC News they received no calls related to the incident.

The worker in the video was identified as a rigger – in charge of fastening payloads to a crane winch – employed by the Modern Niagara contracting company. PCL went on to state: “Fortunately, he was safely lowered to the work surface and not seriously injured,” escaping the close call with a broken wrist as well as a few cuts and bruises.

Nevertheless, those who witnessed the terrifying moment can be heard asking “how the f*** did this happen?” while urging the man to hang on and let his hardhat fall for the sake of keeping his grip.

Thankfully, the mystery man made it back down to the ground with his life and we need a drink after watching that.
