Student celebrates A-level results with a big old swig from a hip flask on Good Morning Britain

Getting started early

Rich Cooper

It’s A-level results day, and students up and down the country are finding out how they did in their exams.

For most, it’s a day to celebrate. For some, a day to commiserate. But as the bars and nightclubs of towns and cities across the country know very well, it’s almost universally a day to go out on the lash, regardless of results.

In addition, it’s also a day for media crews to descend on schools to film students opening envelopes, jumping into the air and tell journalists what university they’re hoping to go to. Good Morning Britain did exactly that, heading down to Winstanley College in Wigan.

There was the usual: students holding bits of paper, smiling, taking a swig from a hip flask, chatting about university. Wait, what?

Yep, that’s a young man by the name of James celebrating his A-levels with a big old swig from a hip flask. Now, we don’t know that he’s knocking back hard liquor. It might have been full of Ribena.

Of course, it wasn’t full of Ribena

“The flask was full of Amaretto – my favourite drink,” James told The Telegraph. “I knew it was going out live, and was filmed opening my results live on air. It was all planned.”

Congratulations to James and to everyone who got their A-level results today. Now let’s all celebrate with a big swig of Amaretto.
