Shock news of the day: Buying one of every item on Amazon is excruciatingly expensive

Matt Tate

We hope that comes with free delivery.

It seems like you can buy pretty much anything on Amazon these days, so naturally inquisitive minds have wondered how much it would set you back to buy literally everything on Amazon.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our answer. The most reckless of all ‘Buy It Now’ sessions would leave you roughly £9.1 billion ($12.86 billion) light. And to think, it all started with that novelty tuxedo for your dog.

The astronomical figure was calculated by computer scientist Kynan Eng, who posted his findings on Quora.

Eng found that in 2015, Amazon was selling 497 million items on the American version of the online site.

He then deduced that the average cost of each item is $28.86, which led him to the ridiculous total. Head over to the original post for a more detailed rundown.

So there you have it. The mother of all Amazon binges would make even Bill Gates wince in horror. Don’t try this at home (but if you do, send JOE a screenshot of the confirmation receipt).
