Up the Toon! Literally
Magpies rejoice as apparently Newcastle has been voted the UK’s favourite place among a top five including Liverpool, Manchester, Wales and Belfast.
As published in the ChronicleLive and reported using a poll carried out by staycations recommendation site, 2Chill (a hint of bias, we know), Newcastle has apparently edged out the fierce competition in the best of British.

This comes in the same week that Manchester was voted the third best city in the world in the 2021 TimeOut guide; Newcastle didn’t even make it on the list for that one, so we can only assume those folks have never been out on the lash down Whitley Bay.
Having said that, they did actually put together a great list of things to do in Newcastle only a month ago, so they’ve clearly got some love for the city – the world’s just a big place isn’t it? Not everyone can fit on every list.
Celebrating the victory, locals tweeted out their messages explaining why the city is so great:

Many people spoke of the ‘way of life’ and the ‘Geordie sense of humour’, with one person writing: “Not just the Geordies but the way people adopt the Geordie attitude when moving here. Brilliant city, brilliant people!”
Whether it’s Whitely Bay, St James’ Park, the markets or even just the Angle of the North on your way there, we have to agree, there’s plenty to see and do in Newcastle.
