A Newcastle United fan has been left devastated after his dog ate his tickets for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

Alan Carling’s day had already been a disappointing one as the Magpies fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool at the weekend.

Nick Pope was also sent off, meaning he will be suspended for the Wembley showdown against Manchester United.

Upon returning home, Carling’s night became even worse as his dog was spotted ripping up his tickets that had been delivered while he was out.

Understandably, Carling was upset but also found the humorous side, jokingly putting his dog Rudy up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

On a post, he said: “This is my dog Rudy. Rudy is a little b*stard of a pup and thinks letters through the post are an invasion of his home.

“After coming back from watching Newcastle lose at home for the first time this season against Liverpool, conceding two goals and having the keeper sent off in the first half.

“Rudy thought he would give me a laugh by eating the Wembley tickets that were posted whilst I was out. Dog for sale, £5 o.n.o.”

With second-choice goalkeeper Martin Dubravka cup-tied, it’s likely that Loris Karius will make his first competitive appearance for an English club since Liverpool’s 2018 Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid.

Despite being the third choice at the Magpies, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has faith the German can come good for him on the big stage.

“He has the experience of the big games. I have no doubt or issue about his ability to do that,” Howe said.

“I have no doubt he and Mark are both in a great physical condition to play. They have all been part of our training.”
