‘I’d sell my house to keep her alive’: Man faces £20,000 vet bill to save dog’s life

‘I am broken watching this gorgeous little soul go through something so horrendous’

A prison officer has made a desperate plea for help after facing vet bills of up to £20,000 to save his beloved dog’s life.

Jaxon Feeley’s “little angel” Rambo, went into Hypovolemic shock earlier this month – an emergency condition where severe blood or other fluid loss makes the heart unable to pump enough blood to the body.

Rambo also contracted gastroenteritis, causing her to deteriorate quickly and become seriously unwell. Throughout the week she began to vomit with fluid going back down and into her lungs, leading to her developing severe pneumonia and a collapsed lung.

“In the vet’s words, Rambo could not have been any more unlucky,” Jaxon, from Wigan, shared.

In a Facebook post, Jaxon explained his 2-year-old Weimaraner had been in intensive care for more than a week, at £1,000 a day, and only came home this weekend.

Writing on a GoFundMe page he set up to help him meet his vet bills – Rambo’s insurance only covers up to £6500 and after one week the bill was already £11,500 – Jaxon pleaded for help.

“If the worst happens and Rambo requires major surgery, the cost of this as well as the aftercare is something I need to be able to give my little baby girl. I am broken watching this gorgeous little soul go through something so horrendous. Anything you can spare will make such a difference. Thank you so much for reading .”

In an update on the page on Saturday he wrote: “My little angel is by no means all better, it will be a long road to recovery for her and she still requires 24/7 observation at this point along with a significant amount of medication. However, we did what we said we would, we came home.”

Jaxon wrote how he slept in his car “whenever I could and make sure that although she couldn’t be with me, she knew I was always there waiting for her” and she “got herself into a little routine of seeing me for 10 minutes every 4 hours that she even knew what corner of the waiting room to find me in”.

He said the vets were “gobsmacked by the power of love, presence and true fight for life” Rambo had in getting healthy enough to come home: “There was no way in hell I was ever going to give up on this gorgeous girl, she is just a little baby, with a want to live and be happy with her big brother Rocky and the Feeleys.”

In a desperate bid to help raise cash, Jaxon launched a Gofundme page and as of Sunday afternoon, £7,300 has been raised.

“Rambo’s insurance has covered her up to £6500. She’s been in intensive care for 10 days now and her bill is nearing £20,000.

“If the worst happens and Rambo requires major surgery, the cost of this as well as the aftercare is something I need to be able to give my little baby girl.

“I’m a prison officer, so there’s no way I could cover that amount of money.

“She’s only 2, she’s my world and I’d sell my house to keep her alive.”
