A heartwarming gesture

A man in Warrington has bought flowers for a female police officer who helped talked him down from a bridge overnight Saturday.

The force posted an image of the officer holding a bouquet of red carnations with the caption: “Last night, PC Millyard assisted in talking a suicidal male down from a bridge. Today, he came to the station with some flowers to say ‘thank you’ for her efforts.”

The tweet has been liked almost 100,000 times and retweeted by 10,000 people.

Cheshire Police said they had received a concern for safety report of a man sat on a bridge on Folly Lane, Warrington.

Officers managed to “negotiate the man down from the bridge” and he was taken to Warrington Hospital, the spokesman added.

Those on social media praised the PC Millyard for her work. One wrote: “Hopefully this’ll inspire others to reach out if they know someone who has depression & suicidal thoughts.”

Another added:  “My absolute heartfelt respect goes to PC Millyard. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been for you and the gentleman concerned. Amazing work.”

While a third said: “Well done PC Millyard, you’ve saved someone’s life and a family from going through the heartbreak of suicide.”
