The reason she chose to ignore the dress code has been explained. But eagle-eyed viewers spotted something.
Kate Middleton has attracted a fair share of criticism for ignore the Time’s Up campaign's dress code at the BAFTAs last night.
Although the majority of females in attendance at the ceremony wore black to support the Time’s Up campaign, she turned up in a dark green Jenny Packham dress.
It has since been explained that the reason for this may have been due to her being married into the royal family. Strict rules governing Royals behaviour means that they are not allowed to make an overt political statement.
However, it has been suggested that she may have been making a secret nod to the women's movement in what she wore.
The dark green of her dress may well have been intended as a nod to the suffragettes, who used to wear the colour to represent hope, and she also wore a black waistband, which might have been a contribution to the dress code.
Although this is just speculation, regardless of her motives, a number of people have defended her on social media.
