Instagram have finally added the feature everyone has been asking for

Users have wanted this for years

Social media awkwardness will now be a thing of the past. Other than accidentally liking stuff. That will never go away.

That’s right, ladies a gentlemen, you can now ‘mute’ people on Instagram, a technique we have all been using vigorously since it was added to Facebook way back when so you didn’t have to see that one person upload a picture of their Sunday dinner every single week for about two years.

The new feature means that you can remove certain accounts from your news feed without ever offending the culprit as you still be following them.

Too many #TBTs? That’s a mute.

Too many gym selfies? Also a mute.

Too many inspirational quotes? You bet that’s a mute.

Simply being a family member? Oh, absolutely that’s a mute. You know it is. Mute them all. Every last one of them.

“When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you’re tagged in,” Instagram said in their latest blog post.

“The accounts you mute will not be aware that you’ve muted them. You can always unmute an account to get their posts back in your feed.

“To mute an account, tap the … menu in the corner of the post. From there, you can choose whether to mute posts, or mute posts and stories from an account. You can also mute posts and stories by pressing and holding on a story in your tray, or from a profile.”

Unfortunately the new feature will only be tested on a small number of iOS users, but fear not, it will be available to everyone at some point in the next few weeks.
