If ever there was a week to buy a lottery ticket, this is it

Huge amount must be given away by Saturday

Simon Lloyd

With Christmas rapidly becoming a distant memory, many of us need something to lift the January gloom.

Given the size of this week’s jackpot, a lottery win would be the perfect tonic.

Nobody matched the six main numbers in last Saturday’s National Lottery – the seventh week on the trot that this has happened.

And after rules which capped the number of rollovers at four were ditched back in October, the prize money has now climbed to a staggering £50m.

Furthermore, if there are no winners in Wednesday night’s draw, the huge sum will have to be given away next Saturday. If that is the case, the money will be divided amongst those players that have matched five of the numbers and the bonus ball.

If you don’t normally play the lottery, perhaps this is the week to make an exception.
