Here are the surefire signs that your boss is lying to you

Carl Kinsella

Ever feel like you’re being lied to?

Not everybody is lucky enough to have a great boss, and in some cases, people can be stuck with a dastardly, conniving, underhanded employer.

Lucky for us, polygraph examiner and private investigator Daniel Ribacoff has put together a handy list of telltale signs that can let you know whether or not your boss is just pulling your leg.

The first key indicator of dishonesty is if your boss doesn’t use commitment pronouns. For example, if you ask your boss for a raise and he or she says “I’ll check it out tomorrow” then it’s more likely to work in your favour than if they respond with “We’ll check it out tomorrow.”

According to Mashable, another sign that you’ve got a spoofer on your hands is if the boss tends to spend a lot of time focusing on trivial details when speaking to you, instead of addressing the issue at hand. So if you ask for a raise and he starts to tell you about what he just had for lunch, chances are he’s not the kind of guy who’ll deal with your issues in an up-front manner.

There’s also plenty you can glean from body language, with Ribacoff saying that people who shift their jaws when they talk, or frequently glance towards the exit, are far more likely to be deceiving you.

Other behaviours such as rushing through answers to your questions, and using expressions like “probably”, “must have” and “pretty sure” are also a bad sign.

So if you’ve noticed your boss doing these kinds of things, it might just be time to call him or her out on it.
