England player and other Premier League star set to come out as gay
Two Premier League footballers - one an England international - are set to become the first top flight players to publicly come out as gay, according to a report in The Mirror.
The two players, unnamed at this point, have reportedly told friends and family of their decision and are receiving support from their clubs and the Football Association.
The report suggests that a number of gay footballers have stayed silent about their sexuality for fear of the backlash.
Former West Ham and Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger had retired before he announced that he was gay in 2014.
Thankfully, it appears attitudes are changing for the better and it is now expected that the two players will go public before the start of next season.
In doing so, let's hope that football is finally allowed to catch up with the rest of the world.
