Baby Girl was diagnosed with diabetes (Photo: Wisconsin Humane Society)[/caption]
Following a medical check-up, it became clear Baby Girl had diabetes mellitus, which can cause elevated blood sugar in dogs. A spokeswoman for the Humane Society said this can be an "expensive disease to manage".
The dog now needs a restricted diet, daily glucose monitoring and insulin injections at home, which require monthly purchases of medical supplies - potentially costing hundreds of dollars each month, the spokeswoman said.
Calls to help the dog came pouring in and Baby Girl found a new home just days after being taken in by the charity. What's more, her previous owner could not be more pleased.

The charity's spokesperson said: "We have been in contact with the previous owner, and were grateful for the chance to connect with her, and honour her wishes for Baby Girl to find a new home. We passed along supportive resources that have been offered to her from this generous community. She expressed her gratitude and happiness knowing Baby Girl would be finding her next loving home soon."
The international response to the dog's story has also been "overwhelming," the spokeswoman said.
"The outpouring of kindness for her previous owner has truly filled our hearts to the brim," she added.
