Chef stuns food critics by revealing gourmet taster menu was made from McDonald’s ingredients

JOE

Having gathered a room full of 40 food critics, chef Neal Fraser promised them a big surprise.

The Californian treated his guests to a five course meal, encouraging them to tweet what they thought about it using the #atasteofsocal hashtag.

If what we see on TV is anything to go by, food critics can be a notoriously picky bunch, so it was good to see what was on offer was fetching favourable reviews…

Chilled avocado soup, buttermilk dressed romaine salad with bacon bits, meatballs and chicken wrapped bacon, finished with coffee custard and maple crumble – it all sounds very impressive. But unbeknown to those eating it, the food had actually been prepared using ingredients from McDonald’s.

The burger meat had been used in the meatballs, the salad was made up of the same leaves found in those in your typical McDonald’s restaurant and the chicken served up was the same as that used in a McChicken Sandwich.

Understandably, many of the food critics were surprised by the revelation, although some were said to have been angered by it.
