Britain’s youngest millionaire says winning the Euromillions ‘ruined her life’

She wants to sue the lottery for negligence.

For most people, winning the lottery would be a dream come true, but with great wads of cash come great responsibilities.

Jane Park, from Edinburgh, was 17 when she won £1m playing the Euromillions. At the time she was working as a temp and living in a council flat with her mum.

That all changed after she bought the winning ticket, and according to Park, not for the better.

“At times it feels like winning the lottery has ruined my life,” she told the Sunday People. “I thought it would make it ten times better but it’s made it ten times worse. I wish I had no money most days.”

Park won the huge cash prize back in 2013, but four years on she thinks that a million pounds is too much money for a 17-year-old to deal with. She’s bought houses, had cosmetic surgery, even gotten a chihuahua, but all of those things are now meaningless, she says.

“I say to myself, ‘My life would be so much easier if I hadn’t won.’ People look at me and think, ‘I wish I had her lifestyle, I wish I had her money’, but they don’t realise the extent of my stress.

“I have material things but apart from that my life is empty. What is my purpose in life?”

Now 21, Park has said she’s considering suing lottery operator Camelot for negligence. Camelot told the Sunday People “We have been in touch with Jane from time to time since her win to offer ongoing support. It is always up to the winners as to whether they want to take up that support”

“We will continue to support Jane in any way we can if that is what decides she wants.”
