The game will be available for PS5 players very, very soon…
In the grand history of video games, no game has hit a perfect 100 on review aggregate website Metacritic, although some have come very close.
1998’s The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time scored 99, while 1998’s SoulCalibur, 2000’s Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, and 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV all scored 98.
A number of releases currently have the joint-third highest score of 97, from 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved to 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 all the way up to 2021’s Disco Elysium: The Final Cut.
And a new addition to that 97 percentile is new release Baldur’s Gate 3, which arrived on PC this week and due to be available for PS5 players in just a few weeks time.
Multiple outlets have scored Baldur’s Gate 3 with perfect scores, and the game has already surpassed the critical review score of its biggest 2023 competition so far; The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom scored 96 when it launched back in May.
As for those glowing reviews, take a look see:
Guardian – “Baldur’s Gate 3, like its titular city, is a towering landmark of an RPG. Bustling with life, brimming with scope, and bursting with imagination.”
IGN – “It’s a must-play masterpiece that sets a new bar in the RPG universe. Even at over a hundred hours, it never fails to surprise and impress with a deep story, hypnotic villains, enticing companions, a world where you can get lost forever and a combat system that rewards creativity. But more than all this, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the fruit of the passion and love of an entire team that has dedicated body and soul to capture the magic of video games.”
Gaming Bolt – “Baldur’s Gate 3 redefines what a role-playing game can offer in character-building, combat, and choice.”
Game Rant – “It has heart, it has style, and it has the multi-year effort of a studio that obviously loves its source material. The mind-blowing size of the game itself and everything contained within is a testament to Larian Studios’ dedication to its craft and commitment to bringing something incredible to the gaming public.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC right now, set to arrive on PS5 and Mac on Wednesday 6 September, with a planned but unconfirmed release for Xbox Series X|S on the way.
