Addictive new game makes you guess the UK location from the nearest Wetherspoons

GeoGuessr is the world's leading geography guessing game, but someone has given it a distinctly British twist

Presenting: the ultimate British geography test

Are you familiar with the game GeoGuessr? If not, prepare to suffer an 80% drop in productivity. GeoGuessr is an amazingly simple idea for a game: you get dropped into a random location in Google Maps and you have to figure out where you are. The closer you are to the actual location, the more points you get.

It’s a thoroughly addictive game, but someone has given the game a uniquely British twist.

Instead of getting dropped into a random location around the world, you get dropped in front of one of Britain’s 875 Wetherspoons, and it’s up to you to figure out where in Britain you are.

Check out the Wetherspoons GeoGuessr game here.

Sometimes it’s incredibly easy. On our second attempt we got dropped in front of the Winter Gardens, a pub helpfully located next door to the Turkish Baths Harrogate, which somewhat gave the game away.

But other times, you’ll genuinely have no idea where you are. Best advice is to look for road signs, see what’s around you and use that to make an informed guess. Don’t do what we did, which was realise you were by the seaside and immediately think ‘This must be Cornwall’, forgetting that almost all of the United Kingdom is surrounded by coastline.

One thing to note, if you want to play more than one game of GeoGuessr a day, you’ll have to sign up for Pro, which according to the website costs as little as €1.99/month (roughly £1.83/month).
