Argentina Superliga player makes defender look ridiculous with outrageous bit of skill

Kyle Picknell

This is absolutely disgusting

You probably won’t have heard of Jan Hurtado, Gimnasia La Plata’s young Venezuelan forward, but he might be worth paying attention to though if the following clip is anything to go by.

During their 3-1 victory over fellow Argentina Superliga side Newell’s Old Boys, a club boasting playing alumni such as Lionel Messi, Mauricio Pochettino and Marcelo Bielsa no less, Hurtado essentially ended centre back Stefano Callegari’s career after one of the most outrageous bits of skill you’ll ever see.

It probably helps that Gimnasia were 3-1 to the good despite having a man sent off, but still, it’s not often you see someone flick the ball up and over the defender’s head with such ease and so smoothly that they simply can’t work out where it has gone, a bit like a dog when you pretend to throw a tennis ball.

For his troubles, and a piece of skill even Neymar would be proud of, Hurtado was aggressively bear-hugged by the Argentine, who probably knew he would have to retire on the spot if the silky forward made it round him after backheeling it over his head.

The best thing about the move, and something that so often the case with bits of showboating, is that he doesn’t lose the ball and actually manages to find a teammate rather than embarrassing someone just for the sake of it. *cough* Yannick Bolasie *cough*.

Watch it and watch it again. It’s phenomenal.
