Harry Kane to tell Gareth Southgate he is match fit for Nations League

Kyle Picknell

England face the Netherlands in Guimarães on Thursday

Harry Kane looked drastically off the pace on Saturday night at the Wanda Metropolitano as Tottenham Hostpur lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League final. But even so, the England captain is reportedly set to inform Gareth Southgate that he is match fit ahead of England’s UEFA Nations League finals campaign.

Kane reported for international duty on Monday night at St George’s Park with the other finalists, giving them only three days to prepare for the semi-final against the Netherlands on Thursday.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Southgate has planned talks with all those involved in the Champions League final – Spurs’ players Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez – ‘to check on their mental and physical states’.

And reportedly, Kane will inform Southgate of his fitness, despite the final on Saturday being his first game in just under three months after he suffered ankle ligament damage in a game against Manchester City on April 9.

Should England beat the Netherlands they will play again in the final three days later on Sunday, June 9.

Portugal will play Switzerland in the first semi-final on Wednesday in Porto.
