The temptation of playing alongside Jonathan Wilkes was too great…

Yet again, Soccer Aid returns to Old Trafford this summer ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

You know how this thing works by now. A host of ex-professional footballers are joined by a number of celebrities for an England vs The Rest of The World exhibition match – all in the name of raising money for charity, Unicef.

With the likes of Clarence Seedorf and Usain Bolt already confirmed for the event, a tweet on Friday confirmed that former Manchester United defender Wes Brown would also be taking part in this year’s match – his Soccer Aid debut.

Brown, who came through the youth ranks at United and was a starter in their Champions League final against Chelsea in 2008, is currently on the books of Kerala Blasters the India. He left United for Sunderland in 2011, later spending time at Blackburn Rovers in the 2016-17 season.

“I am delighted to announce I will be back at Old Trafford on the 10th June, playing for Robbie Williams’ England team in Soccer Aid for Unicef,” Brown said.

Hearing the news, Wayne Rooney, Brown’s former teammate at United was clearly excited at the prospect of the now 38-year-old Brown testing his pace against recently retired Olympic sprinting legend, Bolt.

The Jamaican will be taking his place for the Rest Of The World XI, finally getting his opportunity to show the Old Trafford crowd what he can do with a ball at his feet.
