Everton favourites to sign Danny Welbeck on a free transfer

The striker is available on a free this summer

Danny Welbeck, who you may or may not know better as ‘Dat Guy Welbz’, will leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer, with Everton leading the pack of clubs interested in the striker.

According to the Evening Standard, Everton are in pole position to sign the 28-year-old, who hasn’t played since November last year after badly injuring his right ankle during a Europa League draw against Sporting Lisbon.

Welbeck is now back in full training six months after completing his rehabilitation following two operations on his ankle. It was even rumoured he would make his return in the Europa League final against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Whether he makes the matchday squad or not, and at this stage, it only seems a possibility because both teams can name 12 substitutes for the final, Welbeck will still be looking for a new club this summer.

Everton seem to make a lot of sense for the former Manchester United striker, as they have Champions League ambitions and are willing to meet his £100,000 per week wage demands.

Any move, however, will be subject to a rigorous medical examination before the contract is signed given Welbeck’s extensive injury history.

They will also face stiff competition for his signature from a number of other clubs in the Premier League though, with the likes of West Ham United, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers all apparently interested.
