Anthony Martial’s Man United future cast into further doubt with latest Richarlison report

If this is true, the writing could be on the wall for Martial

Reports continue to link Richarlison with a move away from Watford this summer.

Paying no attention whatsoever to Jose Mourinho insisting he wouldn’t be in the market for any attacking players before next season, rumours are intensifying that Manchester United are looking to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.

A report in the Daily Mail goes as far as saying United are favourites to sign the 20-year-old, who has impressed during his first season in England.

Arriving from Fluminese for just £11m last summer, Richarlison scored five times during his first 12 Watford appearances. Although his goalscoring form has dipped in the time since (he’s not scored since November), this hasn’t deterred Mourinho.

If United’s interest is genuine, they will have to beat the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus to his signature. His price is also expected to be over £40m, netting Watford a tidy profit.

Inevitably, a United move for Richarlison will raise more questions about Anthony Martial’s future in Manchester. The French international is yet to agree a new deal at Old Trafford after reportedly asking for assurances about his playing time. Although a popular figure amongst the club’s supporters, Martial has not been able to establish himself as a regular starter under Mourinho, who has frequently used him as a substitute.

As a result, reports in the last few days have linked Martial with moves to Juventus and Barcelona.
