Will Ferrell’s funniest movie is on TV tonight

Wil Jones

Yes, this is his funniest film. Don’t @ us

Anchorman. Talladega Nights. The Other Guys. Er, Anchorman 2 (which, yeah, isn’t as good, but it still has some lolz). Will Ferell’s collaborations with former SNL-head writer Adam McKay are easily where his unique comedic talents are best captured on screen.

But there’s one that stands head and shoulders above the rest of the duo’s collaborations: Step Brothers, which is on Comedy Central tonight.

You might have your own favourite Will Ferrell movie. It is a free country, but you are wrong.

If you have not been blessed enough to have seen Step Brothers, it has a very simple set up: veteran actors Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen play a couple, one divorced, one widowed, who have found love again later in life, and just gotten married.

They both have immature adult sons who still live at home – played of course, by Will Ferrell and John C Reilly. They have to move in together, and instantly hate each other. And then their parents force them to get jobs.

That’s about it – it is just really about Ferrell and Reilly squabbling, and haplessly trying to get employment. And rapping about boats. And hoes.

The secret weapon in this, of course, is John C Reilly. Previously known as a dramatic actor who impressed in films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Boogie NightsTallegeda Nights revealed him to be an absolutely hilarious, and weird, comedic presence. And Step Brothers is arguably his funniest role (well that, or Dr Steve Brule).

Step Brothers is on Comedy Central tonight at 9pm. And if you want more Ferrell-Reilly content, why not try these quizzes, or watch the trailer for their next film together, Holmes & Watson.
