Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel sing ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ together at Elf reunion

The Elf reunion was part of a Democrat fundraising event

Nearly 20 years after Elf was first released, Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel got together this week to sing ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ together.

Obviously, this being Covid-times, the reunion took place virtually, but that did not make it an any less special moment for fans.

Deschanel shared the clip on her Instagram, recreating the famous bathroom scene from Elf.

In the film, Jovie (Deschanel) sings ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ in the shower, thinking she is alone. But then Will Ferrell’s Buddy hears her, and joins in. This understandably freaks Jovie out.

The clip was from a live-streamed table read of Elf, that was raising money for Georgia’s Democratic party,

“Thank you to everyone who joined the #ElfforGeorgia livestream!” wrote Deschanel on Instagram. “So excited we were able to reach our goal of over $400k! Loved reuniting with the cast and all our very special guests.”

Elf was first released 2003. It quickly became a Christmas classic, as film fans fell in love with Will Ferrell as Buddy, the human raised at the North Pole who think’s he is one of Santa’s elves.

In 2010, it was spun off into a Broadway musical, with Sebastian Arcelus taking the role of Buddy. The stage show would later transfer to the West End in 2015, with Girls Aloud’s Kimberly Walsh in the cast.

That musical would also be adapted into a 2014 stop-motion animated special for NBC entitled Buddy’s Musical Christmas, with Jim Parsons, Mark Hamill and Kate Micucci all providing voices.

But it is the original movie that remains the true festive staple. Every year families settle down for their traditional watch of the film, with phrases like”You sit on a throne of lies,” and “Santa! I know him!” becoming part of the Christmas lexicon.

Director Jon Favreau has occasionally spoken about making a second movie continuing Buddy’s adventures, but so far nothing has come together.
