Robert Pattinson as Batman looks like an emo goth teen, and people are freaking out

Wil Jones

The first trailer for The Batman starring Robert Pattinson was released last night, and Bruce Wayne now looks emo af

This is a good thing by the way.

The reveal was made at DC FanDome, an online series of panels and announcements for DC’s upcoming movies and games.

Robert Pattinson is of course taking over the cowl as Batman in the Dark Knight’s next stand-alone movie. And if you think of him as still just the kid from Twilight, then this is your reminder that he has spent the last decade or so becoming one of indie film’s most interesting actors, in movies like Good Time, The Lighthouse and The Rover.

It is like when Christian Bale got cast as Bats and most of us only knew him from American Psycho. It is a good choice.

As you can see from the trailer, R-Patz’s Bruce Wayne has a My Chemical Romance fringe and looks to sometimes wear eyeliner. It is a strong look, and the internet is freaking out a bit.

The trailer also gives us a first look at Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon.

DC also confirmed that The Batman is a stand-alone movie that does not tie into last year’s Joker, or the other DCEU movies like AquamanJustice League and Suicide Squad.

President of DC Films Walter Hamada said that they are all just part of a “mulitverse”.

“What the multiverse means is we can tell these great stories where we can tell different stories,” Hamada explained.

“There’s one earth where have Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller [as Wonder Woman and The Flash]… and another where we can have Year Two Batman… and then there’s Joker, which isn’t part of either continuity.”

“Matt Reeves can continue to build out his Gotham [in The Batman]. Those are things that we can do because we don’t have to worry about how that would impact Aquaman 2 or The Flash, because it’s all just part of the multiverse.”

“Our focus is telling great stories.”

Ben Affleck in set to return as Batman in The Flash movie as well.

Also released at the DC FanDome event were two videos hyping The Suicide Squad (which looks really great).

Plus the first trailer for the infamous Zack Snyder cut of Justice League.
