Five important things in the new Star Wars trailer we need to talk about

Rudi Kinsella

First off, The Rise of Skywalker is a badass name.

After what has felt like an absolute eternity, we have finally got a look at the trailer for Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

And it looks pretty good, right?

But we reckon that because of how excited you were to see the trailer, there may have been some things that you missed (spoilers for Episodes VII and VIII, obviously).

Luke Skywalker’s voice

The narrator of the trailer is the man himself – Luke Skywalker. Now that might be a bit confusing, because as we know from the last movie, he’s kind of dead.

But that has never stopped Star Wars in the past. Will we get to see him in Episode IX? Or just hear his voice? We’ll take what we can get to be honest.

Princess Leia

It’s no surprise to us that Princess Leia is in the movie, as she didn’t die in the last one, and they were never going to give such a major character an off-screen death.

But it will be interesting to see how they handle the whole thing, as Carrie Fisher tragically died before filming began. It could be a case of CGI work, or perhaps using old footage. Either way, it’s going to be an emotional one for fans either way.

This gold thing

Star Wars

This gold thing that an unknown female character is holding on to, is the medals that our heroes were given in the final moments of Episode IV.

Fans have always expressed outrage that Chewbacca never received one, so maybe now’s the chance.

If not, we riot.

The dialogue

This kind of lends itself to what we were saying about Luke earlier, but there’s one line, in particular, that seems more important than the rest.

Luke says: “We’ll always be with you. No one’s ever really gone.”

We’ve seen this theme before in Star Wars, as characters return from the dead quite often, but between this and the following point we’re about to make, we reckon this is going to be a fairly huge part of Episode IX.

EMPEROR PALPATINE

YEP. That was definitely his laugh. We know it. You know it.

Right at the end of the trailer, we heard that terrifying, iconic laugh. Not the comeback we knew we wanted, but one we will definitely start to get excited about.

One of the best bad guys of all time, and it looks like he’s going to be back for more.
