Here is the first trailer for Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake

Wil Jones

No sign of Will Smith’s Genie yet though

Ever since it was first announced, the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin has movie fans intrigued. How on earth would the 1992 animated classic transfer into the real world?

Earlier this week we got a poster – which didn’t show us much, tbh. But now, finally, we have the first teaser trailer.

It is just a teaser trailer, so we don’t get to see a lot. Mostly, there are just some sweeping, epic shots of the desert landscape, and some caves.

Early on though, a familiar red parrot swoops past and we are certain that has to be Iago.

Eventually, we get our first glimpse at Mena Massoud as Aladdin himself, reaching up to grab the lamp.

Sadly, we get no look at Will Smith’s new version of the Genie. That’s going to be the real money shot for the promotional material, and quite possibly what will make or break the film for anyone who grew up with the animated original.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin also stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, as well as Billy Magnussen and Nasim Pedrad as both a new character and a friend to Jasmine.

The original Aladdin was released as an animated movie in 1992, starred Robin Williams as Genie and went on to take home two Oscars and earn $504 million at the worldwide box office.

Smith previously shared the first photo of the cast but until now nothing else but that poster had been revealed.

Opening May 24th 2019, Aladdin will be followed by another live-action Disney remake in July the same year as Jon Favreau is set to unleash Lion King.

Other classic Disney animations that have gotten the live-action treatment in recent years include CinderellaThe Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty (as Malelificent).
