Tyrese has threatened to quit Fast & Furious 9 if The Rock is cast in it

Their beef has now become a thing of legend.

Rory Cashin

Tyrese alludes that The Rock is on steroids and that his daughter “won’t matter”.

There is a lot to break down here, so we’re going to do our best to bullet point the highlights:

  • Off the back of The Fate Of The Furious (aka Fast 8), producers had picked up on just how great the chemistry was between The Rock and Jason Statham, and the things were put in motion to give these two their own spin-off.
  • The original ending of Fast 8 had The Rock and Statham discussing said spin-off, but Vin Diesel (one of the producers of the series) apparently didn’t like the idea that they were getting more popular than him, and had the ending changed.
  • The Rock found out what Diesel had done, and called out “someone” on a now-deleted Instagram post, saying: ‘Some [male co-stars] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.’
  • The Fate Of The Furious was released in cinemas and made over $1.1 billion at the box office, and everyone loves The Rock and Statham together in it.
  • Tyrese takes to Instagram, in another since-deleted Instagram post, to plead with The Rock to not do the spin-off in favour of Fast 9: ‘If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter. I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about. I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family… We don’t fly solo.’
  • That spin-off is given the green light. In fact, it has now been pushed into the release date (July 2019) that was once taken by Fast 9, which has now been pushed back to 2020. This is apparently to line up the ideal director (the current rumour is that it is Shane Black, of Iron Man 3 and The Predator) to become available.
  • Tyrese heads to Instagram again (and this one is still there), and he is ANGRY:

  • Tyrese again, but this time, he has screengrabbed an Instagram post by Vin Diesel, one with a major player missing, and just to rub salt in the wound, Tyrese shows that fellow F&F star Ludacris has liked the post. The shade. THE SHADE, YOU GUYS!

Which kind of more or less brings us right up today, and Tyrese has taken to Instagram again, and another since-deleted video (which someone on Twitter recorded before it was removed), and again, Tyrese is on the attack.

It starts off harmless enough, with Tyrese claiming that if The Rock does come back for Fast 9, then Tyrese will quit the franchise (oh no!).

But then things start getting quite personal, alluding to The Rock’s use of steroids and claiming that “if my daughter don’t matter, then your daughter won’t matter either”.

There was a time when all of this drama had a fun and addictive vibe to it, like a modern day, muscled version of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. But now? Now it just isn’t fun anymore. You ruined it, Tyrese.
