The trailer for the most anticipated murder mystery series of 2018 is here

Paul Moore

Trust us, this is going to be huge.

In terms of authors that are incredibly cinematic, Gillian Flynn is arguably the go-to writer of the moment. You may already know that Flynn wrote Gone Girl, Dark Places and David Fincher’s upcoming project, Utopia, but her next project has all the hallmarks of a modern classic.

The TV adaptation of her beloved novel, Sharp Objects, has just released its first trailer and the list of talent involved here is stunning. At the start of the year, we earmarked this as one of the must-see shows of 2018 and we’re standing by that prediction.

The eight-episode series will see the five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams star in the leading role and fans of murder mysteries will be absolutely gripped.

In the series, Adams plays Camille Preaker — a reporter that’s been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital but a return to her hometown takes a grisly turn. Camille ends up investigating the horrific murder of two preteen girls homicides in her hometown. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.

Patricia Clarkson co-stars as Camille’s mother, with Elizabeth Perkins, Madison Davenport, Chris Messina and Eliza Scanlen all co-starring.

What’s even better is the director of the beloved Big Little Lies, Jean-Marc Vallee, is behind the lens on this one and given HBO’s superb record of drama and mystery (The Night Of, The Deuce) we could be set for one of the best shows of 2018.

Sharp Objects airs in July 2018.

Take a look.
