The Rock earned an absolute fortune on his way to becoming the world's highest paid actor

The Rock is the biggest man in Hollywood right now.

While he has packed on a huge amount of size to play Hobbs in the new Fast & Furious 8 Movie, we're not just talking about the size of his guns.

Dwayne Johnson literally and financially is the biggest man in movies this year.

The WWE wrestling superstar has earned more than any other Hollywood heavyweight over the past 12 months.

The Central Intelligence star banked an eye-watering $64.5m from June 2015 to June this year according to the Forbes Rich List.

That's more than Tom Cruise ($53m), more than Matt Damon ($55m) and even more than Jackie Chan ($63m).

Despite his serious financial muscle, which put him in the top 20 highest earning stars of 2016, The Rock has remained incredibly humble.

He posted an Instagram reaction to the publication of his enormous earnings where he reflected on being kicked out of his home as a teenager and being twenty-something and flat broke.

"I learned a few invaluable lessons a long time ago that can help all of you guys out there succeed at whatever it is you're doing.

"Greatness is never achieved alone. Surround yourself with hungry, brilliant individuals who not only buy into your philosophy, but who are all willing to work just as hard as you. Power of teamwork.

"And don't ever forget where you came from. I was evicted at 14yrs old and completely broke by 23. Every day I wake up as if that eviction notice is right around the corner waiting for me.. which is why I always say, "the wolf is always scratchin' at the door".

"We embrace and respect our past (even if it was f*cked up), but we never let it define our future. Let's stay hungry and chase that greatness."

The Rock has transformed himself into one of the world's biggest box office draws. His earthquake disaster movie San Andreas almost pulled in half a billion dollars - so you can see why directors are falling over themselves to work with him.

It has been an incredibly busy year for the 44-year-old who has filmed the new series of Ballers, appeared alongside Zach Efron in the new Baywatch and is currently filming the latest instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise.

With a work rate like that, it's not surprising he's now the king of Hollywood.

Despite the vast fortune he's amassed in the past 12 months, it pales into insignificance almost against some of the world's other top celebrity names.

Taylor Swift came out top with $170m, followed by One Direction who banked $110m. Other music mega-earners were Adele $85m and Madonna $76.5m.

Football giants Cristiano Ronaldo ($88m) and Lionel Messi ($81.5m) came fourth and eighth on the list respectively and other sports stars like NBA LeBron James $77m and Roger Federer $68m did alright for themselves too.

Paul and Barry Chuckle did not make this year's list.
