The Grace Jones memoir – we cannot wait

Lia Nicholls

“Oh, Bianca Jagger just rode in on a white horse? I did that five years ago on a Bengal tiger, now where’s my damn cocktail?”

Grace Jones insisted she would never tell her story, so I bet I’m not in the minority when I say how pleased I am she has changed her mind.

The singer, disco icon, actress and model has announced the release of her autobiography, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs, due to hit shelves on September 29.

Katie Price may have sold millions with her reality waffle, but this much-anticipated tome is believed to be packed iconic tales of art and experience, on a par with Patti Smith’s prelude to fame Just Kids.

Chiselled-cheekboned Jones, 67, is said to be including chapters on the highs and lows of her professional life, hanging out at legendary New York nightclub Studio 54, living with Jerry Hall during her modelling days, collaborating with Andy Warhol and acting opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer.

Jamaican-born Jones revealed her plans to pen the collection back in 2013, when she confessed although she wasn’t keen to put out her life story, she was scared someone else might do it if she didn’t.

She said: “I wrote a song called Art Groupie. First line said ‘I’ll never write my memoirs’ – that was a long time ago. Since then, I thought, if I don’t do it, somebody else will.”
