The film comes from the director of Man on Fire and Top Gun.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Wednesday, 18 June) is The Fan, the 1996 sports-focused psychological thriller starring two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro (The Godfather II, Raging Bull).

The film tells the story of a star baseball player named Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes, Blade) in San Francisco who becomes the unhealthy focus of the down-on-his-luck, volatile salesman, Gil Renard (played by De Niro).

"As Renard's personal life continues to crumble, he begins obsessively tracking Rayburn, leading to kidnapping and even murder," the plot synopsis reads.

Directed with flashy style by the great Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Top Gun, True Romance), The Fan also features amongst its cast Benicio Del Toro, Ellen Barkin, Jack Black and John Leguizamo.

Though it was a commercial and critical disappointment upon release, the movie's talented cast and crew and its entertaining sports twist on classic stalker thrillers like Fatal Attraction, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle and Single White Female make it worth seeking out.

The Fan is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on the channel Legend at 12.55pm.

It's also streaming for free via Rakuten TV.
