The cast list for the ‘Twin Peaks’ revival is absolutely amazing

This has to be one of the strongest TV casts in years

Carl Kinsella

US network Showtime has finished production on Twin Peaks, a revival of the most surreal murder mystery ever to hit the silver screen.

The show’s cult-following has grown into a massive fan-base since it ended in 1991, and now people are biting their nails in anticipation for the new show.

If you’re one of the waiting, Showtime’s 217-person cast list released yesterday evening will have your stomach doing backflips.

Among the returning cast is Kyle McLachlan who will reprise his role as Special Agent Dave Cooper. Sheryl Lee, who played Laura Palmer (as in ‘Who killed-?’) and her cousin Maddy is back too.

David Duchovny will also return as the transgender character Denise Bryson – presumably under more social media scrutiny than the character would have faced in the early ’90s.

As for new faces, there are many of them and they don’t follow any real pattern. Michael Cera, of world’s-awkwardest-man fame, will be part of the cast, as will Amanda Seyfriend and Naomi Watts. Other Hollywood heavy-hitters joining the show are Jennifer Jason Leigh and Ashley Judd.

Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene on The Walking Dead will feature, as well as musicians Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails).

Quite an eclectic bunch of performers, we must admit. Our hopes are well and truly up.

Twin Peaks returns in 2017.
