‘If I had another 100 lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade every single time’
Popular YouTuber ‘Technoblade‘ has passed away at the age of 23 from cancer, posting one final video as an emotional goodbye to his fans.
Technoblade, whose real name was Alex, had been battling stage four cancer for the last year and had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for the illness.
In a heart-wrenching video called ‘so long nerds’, his father confirmed the tragic news and read out a message from the YouTuber to his subscribers.
He revealed that the gaming content creator had passed away just eight hours after writing his final words, and said he was the “most amazing kid anyone could ask for.”
In the message to his fans, Technoblade said: “If I had another 100 lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade every single time.”
He continued: “Those were the happiest years of my life. I hope you guys enjoyed my content and that I made some of you laugh and I hope you all go on to live long, prosperous and happy lives, because I love you guys.
“Technoblade out.”
A message from his mother appeared on-screen at the end of the video. She said: “This past year had a lot of rough spots for our son as he battled stage four cancer. But he didn’t complain, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he knew were almost impossible odds…
“My son’s bravery on this path was a shining lesson to all of us who were privileged to walk it with him.
“Thank you for sharing his journey through it all, as he did the work he loved for his beloved fans.”
You can watch the video below. At the time of writing it has been viewed more than 14.6m times.
Technoblade rose to fame live-streaming on Twitch and posting clips to his YouTube channel of himself playing Minecraft, amassing 10.9m subscribers.
He managed to keep his real name and identity a secret despite his fame as one of the best Minecraft gamers in the world.
In August 2021 he revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. In February this year, he explained in a fundraising video that he had undergone chemotherapy, radiation therapy and a limb salvage operation after developing a tumour in his right arm.
Figures from across the worlds of gaming and YouTube have taken to social media to pay tribute to him following the news of his passing.
I'll never forget the day I met Technoblade. I left work early to play in a Minecraft tournament with him. I barely knew how to play… and the dude still carried us to win the entire fucking event.
Rest in peace, big guy. You'll always be a legend.

I had the opportunity to express to Technoblade how much admiration and respect I had for him, not only for the massive impact he had on all of us, but also for keeping his incredible humor even in the darkest moments.
I will miss him so much.

A portion of proceeds from online orders for Technoblade’s merchandise will now go to charity, and fans have set up a book of condolences on the Hypixel server which he used. This will then be passed on to his family.
