Disney+ has just added Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the latest entry in the Star Wars franchise and one of the biggest shows of the year.
Created by Spider-Man: Homecoming's Christopher Ford and Jon Watts, the series centres on four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy.
On their way, they stumble upon a charismatic space pirate (Jude Law) who offers them help.
Co-starring Kerry Condon, Skeleton Crew also boasts a lot of talent behind the scenes, with acclaimed directors like Watts, Bryce Dallas Howard (The Mandalorian), The Daniels (Everything Everywhere All at Once), David Lowery (The Green Knight) and Lee Isaac Chung (Twisters) helming episodes of the show.
The series has so far earned rave reviews from critics, currently holding a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Being heralded as a return to form for the franchise, many have praised Skeleton Crew for its wonderous blend of adventure and coming-of-age storytelling - with some even comparing the project to the work of Steven Spielberg.
You can read some of these positive write-ups right here:
The Daily Beast: "With a collection of assured directors, a cast of fine young actors, and Jude Law as the material’s untrustworthy swashbuckler, it’s a family affair which captures some of that old far, far away magic."
Daily Telegraph (UK): "A rip-roaring Spielbergian romp."
London Evening Standard: "The children are immensely likeable, the gags work and my nine-year old daughter was clinging to my arm with every kid-friendly jump scare and plot twist."
Times (UK): "It’s an adventure centred on kids but not exclusively for them, something of a rarity in the schedules. It deserves to be celebrated, especially when the thrills are this good."
