Is it the end?
It seems like it was only getting started, but Season 4 of Sherlock came to an end with a thrilling, edge-of-the-seat finale on Sunday night, with viewers now wondering if there will be anything more to come from the brilliant BBC series.
Unlike previous seasons, the Season 4 finale,
which had been leaked online prior to its broadcast on Sunday night, reached a resolution of sorts after an incredibly tense encounter between Sherlock, John Watson, Mycroft and Eurus, who was revealed to be Sherlock’s long-lost sister.
Having revealed that Eurus has been locked away on a remote, high-security island since her youth, Sherlock, Mycroft and Watson travel to confront her, only to be drawn into a series of high stakes challenges that put many lives at risk.
The episode also sees the return of Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who did not rise from the dead but instead stars in a series of pre-recorded messages that were requested of him in an encounter with Eurus on the island five years previously.
The closing scenes, which saw Sherlock and Watson back to what they do best at 221B Baker Street, do leave room for further episodes, but the show’s creators have suggested that it may well be the end.
If it is, they sure went out with a bang and the watching audience of millions were suitably impressed.
