Co-creator Steven Moffat has confirmed that the fourth series of Sherlock will start filming in spring 2016...
He also revealed that devoted fans should expect a darker, more sinister tone, with a suggestion that key characters may get their comeuppance.
"[Series four] is going to be...I suppose you'd say... consequences. It's consequences. Chickens come to roost," explained Moffat at the BAFTA winners press conference.
"It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you."
Whether that involves Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson dishing out just desserts, or possibly getting theirs is unclear.
One things for sure - we'll get confused and have to watch it again...
