The film comes from the writer of A Time to Kill and The Firm.
Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 14 November) is Runaway Jury, the 2003 legal thriller based on a novel by John Grisham (A Time to Kill, The Firm, The Pelican Brief).
The film takes place in the aftermath of a workplace shooting in New Orleans, where a trial against the gun manufacturer pits lawyer Wendell Rohr (Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman) against shady jury consultant Rankin Fitch (Oscar-winner Gene Hackman).
The latter uses illegal means to stack the jury with people sympathetic to the defense.
“But when juror Nicholas Easter (John Cusack) and his girlfriend, Marlee (Rachel Weisz), reveal their ability to sway the jury into delivering any verdict they want, a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game begins,” the plot synopsis reads.
Released in 2003, Runaway Jury was well-liked by audiences and critics alike – with its pacing, performances and plot twists being singled out for praise.
Many considered it a worthy successor to the earlier and beloved Grisham legal thriller adaptations such as The Firm.
Runaway Jury is airing on TV tonight on the channel Legend at 9pm. It is also available to stream on Disney+.
