New Rings of Power trailer drops and it finally looks like Lord of the Rings

"An evil, ancient and powerful, has returned."

The long-awaited trailer for the second season of The Rings of Power has dropped and it's beginning to look like Lord of the Rings.

Season one premiered on Prime Video in 2022 to a mixed reaction and there has been a long wait for the follow-up season.

The new trailer has not disappointed and from what we can see, Middle Earth is looking closer to how it appears during the original film trilogy, increasingly surrounded by dark and sinister forces.

A lot is shown in the new trailer, including a brand new look for one of the greatest villains of all time - Sauron.

Charlie Vickers reprises his role as the villain, only this time he is sporting a dramatically different look since his reveal last season, “one that will aid him in deceiving the denizens of Middle-earth.”

The trailer "takes viewers on an action-packed journey back to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age and shows the ascending evil presence of Sauron as he continues his vengeful quest for complete power."

Fans of the show seem to be impressed by the upcoming season's trailer, with a lot agreeing that it looks like an improvement on the first already.

One person commented: "This looks incredible!! Can’t wait to return to Middle Earth in August!"

Another said: "Look, if you like the Lord of the Rings, you need to give season 2 a shot. It is going to show why Sauron is one of the greatest villains in all of fiction."

A third added: "I think this will be way better than season 1, it should be."

Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry) all appear in the trailer for the second season.

There is also a brief shot of the character known as the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) wielding a wooden staff, who many have speculated as being an early version of Gandalf.

The Rings of Power's first season resulted in more than 32 billion minutes streamed on Prime Video, making it its most-watched premiere.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres on Prime Video on August 29.
