The social media meltdown continues
Ricky Gervais has taken a swipe at Sam Smith for their outfit choice at the 2023 Brit Awards on Saturday night.
The ‘Unholy’ singer caught the attention of many with their choice of red carpet attire at the Brits, wearing a black latex, balloon-like outfit, which featured a high neck, sleeves and legs which appeared to be inflated and a zip going up the front of the all-in-one look.
Along with this, the 30-year-old wore a pair of heeled boots and a pair of tiny earrings as they posed for photographs on the red carpet before making their way into the main arena area.
The designer of the outfit, Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai, has since explained the meaning behind it, saying it was his take on celebrating Smith’s “natural form and the beauty of being one’s self.”
Predictably, the outfit divided opinion. Whilst many praised the singer for their self-confidence and IDGAF attitude, others mocked them for the outfit choice.
One of these was comedian Ricky Gervais, who decided to edit his head onto Smith’s body.
Sharing the picture on Twitter, he wrote: “The worst thing about being famous is the lack of privacy. I can’t even walk down the street without people looking and pointing.”

Responding to the tweet, one person said: “Who’s your trainer? Asking for a friend who wants to look like a bubble…”
Another asked: “Is this what you’ll be wearing next year when you host the Brits?”
But some defended Smith’s fashion choice, with one person commenting: “I must say, much as this (they) isn’t my cup of tea, it doesn’t bother me what [they’re] up to.
“In fact, I only see things about [them] from older men who seem increasingly upset about what younger generations are doing. This stuff happened in your generation too. You do know that, grandpa?”
Gervais isn’t the only celeb who has taken a dig at Smith in in the last few days.
On Monday, Piers Morgan labelled Smith a “complete berk,” and also edited his head onto the singer’s body.
This was after he had hit out at them for being “over-thirsty for attention,” in one of the all-time great examples of the pot calling the kettle black.
