Martin Scorsese's $200 million epic crime drama Flowers Of The Killer Moon has finally been given an official release date, and it will arrive right smack bang in the middle of Oscar-conversation season.
Based on the 2019 non-fiction book of the same name, the movie will tell the story of members of the Osage tribe in the United States who are being murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major F.B.I. investigation involving J. Edgar Hoover.
The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, Jack White, Lily Gladstone and Tantoo Cardinal, with a script co-written by Scorsese and Oscar-winner Eric Roth (Forest Gump, Dune, A Star Is Born).
This will also be Scorsese's first movie since 2019's The Irishman, and where that release was a Netflix production with a very limited cinematic release. Before that, his previous proper cinematic release was 2016's Silence, which remain one of the biggest box office flops of his career ($23.8 million on a $50 million production budget).
His new project will be co-produced by Apple Studios and Paramount Pictures film, and is reportedly scheduled to debut at this year's Cannes Film Festival in this May, followed by a limited released window in the States on Friday, 6 October, ahead of a wider release on Friday, 20 October.
While there is no specific Ireland and UK release date as of yet, both of those release dates will see Scorsese go into direct competition with already announced titles. October 6 was both the next Spider-Man spin-off Kraven The Hunter and Disney's top-secret sci-fi comedy True Love, while October 20 has animated sequel Trolls 3 and Taika Waititi's true-life sports comedy drama Next Goal Wins.
Aside from the limited big release of Don't Look Up, this will also be DiCaprio's first cinematic release since 2019's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and it will mark the 30-year anniversary of his first collaboration with Robert De Niro, 1993's This Boy's Life.
