Pink says her 11-year-old daughter can’t have a phone until she can prove social media is good for you

‘If you can produce literature from a reputable source that tells me that social media is good for you…’

Pink might have tens of millions of social media followers, but that isn’t any indication she thinks the platforms are good for her kids.

Or that her daughter, Willow, 11, is ready for a phone.

Even if she’s the only one in her class without one.

The 43-year-old singer was speaking to KTU 103.5 FM about her new album, life, and family when social media use came up.

While on the Carolina With Greg T In The Morning Show, Pink revealed her daughter doesn’t have a phone.

Apparently, for a very good reason.

“My kids (Pink also has a son, five) don’t have a phone, and my daughter is the only 11-year-old in her class that doesn’t have one,” Pink said.

“It’s hard. A lot of my friends have their kids on TikTok, and I don’t.”

She then went on to reveal what she told Willow, who has clearly used that line on her mum before.

“I told Willow, ‘That just doesn’t move my needle. They’re not my kids. You’re my kid’.”

Pink, real name Alecia Beth Hart, told the radio hosts that conversations about social media use are hard when Willow is the child of someone who is famous.

Social media use was a big issue between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West after their separation. Ye didn’t want their daughter, North, to be on TikTok. Kim and North share an account.

“She has a lot of eyes on her,” Pink said, adding that her daughter’s mental well-being is more important than being cool among her peers.

“I told her, point blank, ‘If you can produce literature from a reputable source that tells me that social media is good for you, then you can be on it. Otherwise, good luck’,” Pink, who has almost 9.5m followers on Instagram and 31.5m on Twitter, told the radio hosts.

For her daughter’s first job, Pink said Willow will head out on tour with her and be paid just like any other kid would in that role.

“Willow has a job on tour,” she told Today. “We just had to go over minimum wage and it’s different from state to state.”
