‘This might just be the best thing Netflix ever gave funding to’
People have been discovering a Netflix horror series three years after it was released.
Netflix has built up an impressive repertoire of original horror series over the years, largely down to one man: Mike Flanagan.
This is the man behind shows such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Fall of the House of Usher.
But many reckon his best work was in Midnight Mass, which was released almost exactly three years ago.
Midnight Mass is a supernatural horror series that follows the residents of Crockett Island, a small, isolated community struggling with dwindling faith and personal demons. When a charismatic new priest, Father Paul – played by Hamish Linklater – arrives, miraculous events and terrifying occurrences begin to unfold.
As the town experiences unexplainable healings and resurrections, the dark origins of these miracles are slowly revealed, rooted in a sinister force.
The series explores themes of belief, guilt, redemption, and the fine line between religious devotion and fanaticism, culminating in a harrowing confrontation between good and evil.

The seven-parter has been branded an “ambitious meditation on grief and faith that is as gorgeous as it is unsettling” by one critic and a “triumph of terror that will leave viewers shaking – and thinking – long after the credits roll.”
It holds an impressive score of 87 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, and despite being released back in 2021, some horror fans are only just discovering the series.
In a recent review on Rotten Tomatoes, one fan wrote: “It’s one of the best horror series in years!”
Another said: “I started this show based on some clips I had seen circulating online. The imagery and cinematography really drew me in. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with this show. I found myself immediately wanting to start the next episode, which to me is a sign of a great story. They did a great job of slowly building to a great finale. I am really impressed by this series.”
Many who already knew about Midnight Mass have been raving about it online as it celebrates three years since its release, with some going as far to say that it’s one of the best things Netflix has ever made.
One person wrote: “Midnight Mass transformed tv in a way we will never see again.”
Another said: “Midnight Mass might just be the best thing Netflix ever gave funding to.”
“Midnight Mass is not only excellent horror, but one of the most profound stories about faith and belief TV has managed in a very long time,” a third penned.
So, with Halloween just a few weeks away, this might be the perfect horror series to get you in the mood for some haunting.
Midnight Mass is available to stream on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
