Paul O’Grady: Comedian and TV presenter dies aged 67

Tributes have poured in for the much-loved presenter

Comedian and TV presenter Paul O’Grady has died at the age of 67.

O’Grady’s partner, Andre Portasio, released a statement to confirm that the much-loved star had passed away “unexpectedly but peacefully” on Tuesday evening.

He said: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

“We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”

The presenter first rose to fame for his drag queen persona Lily Savage and hosted a number of game shows including Blankety Blank.

He also hosted his own show – The Paul O’Grady show – on Channel 4 and was fondly known for his love of animals.

O’Grady leaves behind his daughter Sharon, as well as two grandchildren.

Tributes from fans and famous figures around the world have poured in for the TV star.

Piers Morgan tweeted: “RIP Paul O’Grady, 67. A wonderfully warm, mischievous, hilarious guy with a sublime natural talent for broadcasting and making people laugh.”

Jack Dee said: “RIP Paul O’Grady. A lovely man and a brilliant comedian. No one could follow Lilly x”

Lorraine Kelly also said: “Such sad news. Paul O’Grady – funny, fearless, brave, kind and wise. Will be sorely missed. A really special man.”
